The images and texts were developed collaboratively by He Fa and AI. The first-person voice belongs to an experiment in character; costume, posture and props are used to develop creative arguments, not as quotations from or summaries of the thought of the figures referenced.

A white beard forms an enormous soft wall below the face; a red hat falls to one side, and a black belt gathers the thick winter coat at the center. A brown gift sack rests beside black boots. Both hands emerge from white fur, while He Fa's eyes and nose remain visible. The friendly signs of traditional Santa Claus have been intensified so much that the body seems about to be surrounded by its own warmth.

I am willing to preserve the pleasure of giving, without interrogating every good intention until it cannot begin. But sending a gift and meeting a need are not always the same. A large sack means only plenty of capacity, not a guarantee that it contains exactly what others want. If recipients must first display gratitude to qualify to explain that something is unsuitable, goodwill becomes another heavy parcel.

The beard is this look's most lovable obstacle. It makes me appear reliable and pushes both hands far outward, as though approaching someone expected to be warm requires passing through his image of warmth first. I do not want a cool face to cancel warmth; I want an entrance for a greeting, so the giver can still hear answers that do not fit the script of celebration.

Giving also needs particular limits. Promising endless gifts may sound wonderful, but makes the labor of preparation, distribution and waiting invisible. Clearly stating what can be given and what cannot be undertaken is often more honest than maintaining an inexhaustible expression. Refusing an unsuitable gift should not count as rejecting an entire relationship either.

The brown sack is not yet open, and the white beard still softly surrounds the body. I first leave a hand empty, without rushing to take something from the sack, to see whether a sentence needs to be heard before any gift.
