The images and texts were developed collaboratively by He Fa and AI. The first-person voice belongs to an experiment in character; costume, posture and props are used to develop creative arguments, not as quotations from or summaries of the thought of the figures referenced.

A short black-plum jacket fastens with one enormous cream-yellow cloth button, while broad teal felt strips hang from the lower edges of both sleeves toward the knees. They are not light and fine like slender cords; each retains a definite width.

When I stand still, the fringes leave an imagined place for sound. But the image is static, and I cannot claim to have heard how they sound.

This not-yet-happened state offers a useful way to discuss writing. A sentence ready to be read has not necessarily received a response; a structure that looks rhythmic does not prove it has actually affected another person's time. Potential deserves preserving, but needs a particular activation, rather than counting possible applause among its achievements before activation occurs.

The fringes are only below the sleeves, leaving the chest relatively smooth and the source of movement clear. Only when an arm moves might the nearby strips change position. Expression has causal relations like this too: who said what, through which medium, and how it reached the listener. If we praise only the overall atmosphere, an attractive resonance can readily obscure the specific route of transmission.

Requiring every expression to receive an immediate echo would force writing to depend on the movements most likely to provoke reaction. Some texts can stay quiet for a long time, waiting for readers in another time. I am willing to give them room while separating waiting from self-certification. No response need not be treated as failure, nor automatically explained as a work being too far ahead of its time for anyone to understand.

I place my hands beyond the fringes and leave them still for now. The felt strips' lengths remain visible; silence has not canceled their possible rhythms. When an arm actually rises, I am willing to attend to which particular strip moves first and which lags, rather than combine all changes into a judgment I already knew. Perhaps writing needs this patience, kept until a response actually arrives.
