The images and texts were developed collaboratively by He Fa and AI. The first-person voice belongs to an experiment in character; costume, posture and props are used to develop creative arguments, not as quotations from or summaries of the thought of the figures referenced.

A long golden robe wraps the body from square shoulders to feet, with black-and-white rectangles on one side and colored circles on the other; a floral base fills the space below. Klimt's The Kiss becomes a single patterned body. He Fa's hands meet at the chest, the face still somewhat cool. Signs of intimacy surround me, yet no second person appears to complete the title automatically.

This makes me willing to distinguish, for now, the forms of intimacy from evidence that intimacy is taking place. Gold can create enclosure and patterns suggest proximity, but cannot respond on behalf of two subjects. Nor must a single figure, lacking another half, be only a vacancy waiting for completion. Solitude can possess complete actions without forever being a prelude to a relationship of two.

The black blocks and colored circles are not blended into one pattern; they retain their differences on the same robe. I want to see this as a question of living together: closeness does not require total assimilation, and formal unity does not necessarily mean mutual understanding. If a sufficiently beautiful robe wraps differences up, conflict may disappear from view for a while yet remain in the specific details of distributing space and response.

I have not asked patterns to prove happiness for me, or performed a cool face as a conclusion of loneliness. The hands meet at the chest and, for now, clearly belong only to this body. The golden robe can still shine and the flowers spread. If relationship is to enter, it should begin with an action both parties can refuse, change or accept, rather than have the title make them fit in advance. Adjacent patterns do not yet constitute mutually agreed contact.
