The images and texts were developed collaboratively by He Fa and AI. The first-person voice belongs to an experiment in character; costume, posture and props are used to develop creative arguments, not as quotations from or summaries of the thought of the figures referenced.

My body is an upright crescent, with a grey-blue face set into the inner arc, little indigo arms nearby and a complete black base below. The large central blank is not filled as though it were a missing part. It helps make the outline recognisable. I want to begin with this gap and ask about completion: must something that does not look full keep moving towards fullness?

Filling the crescent into a disc would increase its area, but turn the figure into something else. The gap preserves the direction of the curve and gives the face an inward position. It shows that some blanks have a positive structural role. Removing them is not simply addition; it changes relations already formed. Sometimes an act of completion must account separately for the destruction it causes.

This does not mean every absence deserves praise. If a piece missing from the base prevents the body from standing, the poetry of incompleteness cannot explain it away. Distinction must return to specific functions: which blank allows the figure to take shape, and which defect obstructs its use? The two cannot both be folded into one moving story of incompletion.

Putting the face on the inner curve prevents me from pretending the blank lies entirely outside me. It is close, but is not territory waiting to be occupied. I would use this relation to approach unfinished things: some places require more work; elsewhere, I need to acknowledge that a space helps me precisely because my own content has not covered it.

I let the black base support the curved body, without borrowing a disc’s permission to be complete. The watchman can retain a patch of grey background through which passers-by may see elsewhere. If this body can already exist clearly, it need not find filling for every blank. One kind of completion may be finally knowing where to stop.
