A propositionIndividual protection can create more room, but its own coverage cannot stand for everyone's circumstances.
A large disc, half cobalt blue and half cream white, rests on the head; a short gray-blue cape covers a mustard-yellow inner layer, with cream-white ankle boots planted below. I seem to have worn a weather forecast as a hat. Yet the hat records no meteorological data; it merely creates a conspicuous area of coverage near the body, letting me begin to think from its edge. If I imagine sunshine or rain arriving from above, the disc gives different positions different conditions. But this is a hypothesis of use needing examination, not a basis for assuming complete protection merely because the hat is wide. Wind may change direction, and the edges may send water elsewhere. Once protection creates a boundary, it should also explain what happens outside it.
The two-colored division reminds me that the same weather can become different experiences. Someone beside me may not receive the same shelter. If I judge rain unimportant based only on my own dryness, I turn one situation improved by equipment into a shared reality. The more effective private protection is, the more care is needed to stop it from separating outside experiences from understanding.
The hat's failure to shelter everyone does not invalidate its use for one person. Always asking an individual to solve the whole weather would deprive even feasible small protections of value. I am willing to acknowledge its limits while connecting those limits to borrowing, moving or adding another shelter, rather than turning a successful hat into a reason to stop caring about others.
I remain at the center of the disc, without requiring that calm face to perform mastery of weather. The brim can protect me and remind me to turn and look toward the edge. If someone beside me is still in the rain, my benefit should be accurately called this small benefit here and now. It need not be denied in shame, but cannot declare the whole sky clear.
