He Fa began with photography.

In 2015, he founded P4 Theatre in Beijing and took the work into factories, offices, bookstores and private rooms. Human Surrender Faction, completed in 2023–2024, draws years of shared life, rehearsal and camera relations into a film of approximately 156 minutes. He continues to work with its sound, images and text.

Photography

Mountain Beyond Mountains recomposed many partial photographs into landscape in 2012.

Gewu Studio

He Fa joined its founding in 2012, working on the market side and contributing to design discussions.

P4 Theatre

Founded in 2015, P4 moved performances and workshops through different urban sites.

Live relations

Howler on the Rooftop, Iceberg and Love Theatre followed between 2020 and 2023.

After Human Surrender Faction, work continued through sound, frames and short films.

P4

P4 Theatre / 2015–present

Founded and directed by He Fa in Beijing, P4 has worked in abandoned factories, a 16-square-metre office, boxing gyms, bookstores, industrial sites and private rooms through performances, workshops, filming and collective production.

He Fa / 何发

He Fa is an interdisciplinary artist and a theatre and moving-image maker. He is the founder, director and long-term organizer of P4 Theatre. His practice began with photography and later moved into non-standard sites, participatory theatre, film and sound.

He studied photography at the School of Design, Central Academy of Fine Arts, and later undertook Fine Arts MFA-stage study at California College of the Arts, participating in its 2018 MFA Thesis Exhibition.
