He Fa on the Frost-Crystal Slow Walker

the Frost-Crystal Slow Walker

Fragility need not mean unusability

A broad crystal head and two long blue legs place a delicate surface within a body that must keep moving.

A propositionPreserving something precious should allow appropriate use; protection that abolishes contact also changes how it exists.

A huge horizontal crystal head bears down on a tiny cream torso. Two long cobalt legs resemble thin straight supports, ending in larger round feet. The frost-like surface naturally suggests fragility, but an image cannot tell me whether it would actually melt or break. As this fictional body, I wonder how much opportunity to keep using myself remains once I have been deemed fragile.

The easiest version of protection is to stop moving and touching, keeping every encounter beyond a safe distance. This may preserve the surface while making the long legs superfluous. If something was meant to pass through life, completely freezing its use may do more than retain its original state: it may already have made it into an object with another purpose.

The long legs and large feet let me imagine slower movement. Speed can be adjusted, routes inspected beforehand and stopping places arranged. These conditions are more specific than a general demand for care. If protection becomes a usable method, we need not be left with only reckless risk or total storage.

Some damage is indeed difficult to repair; the wish to use something cannot automatically take priority. I accept limits and want to explain who bears the loss when something goes wrong. Questioning protection should not become pressure on fragile things to prove themselves less fragile. It needs to judge with the body which contacts are worthwhile and which moments can wait.

I let the long blue legs remain, rather than remove the means of action below from consideration because the crystal head is so conspicuous. Moving slowly can be an active technique, claiming neither perpetual safety nor that stillness is the only loyalty. If this body can reach another suitable place to stop, preservation and use may have achieved a balance that remains open to negotiation.
