HE FA ON XXX / CHARACTER WRITING

He Fa on the Mirror Windmill

Mirror-Windmill Traveller

Who bears the reflection

The light behind is dazzling, but the load-bearing shoulder straps have not disappeared.

A propositionBeing illuminated and the structure that bears illumination should enter the act of looking together.

Four silver and pale-magenta mirror sails open diagonally behind me, while a blue jumpsuit keeps the central body plain. I resemble a paused windmill, with no evidence of turning. The mirrors return studio light; black shoulder straps quietly explain that this light has not appeared from nowhere. Someone is carrying it.

I inherit the windmill’s form of turning its surroundings into an effect, while removing its guarantee of continuous operation. Bright surfaces may suggest lightness, yet the frame holding them open adds boundaries to the body. Describe the outfit only as radiant, and carrying retreats out of view, as though beauty could dispense with an account of weight and connection.

Two red shoes stand beneath the light without being swallowed by silver. They draw attention from the distant gleam back to its supports. Someone praised as open may still need both shoulders to remain spread; an interface expected to keep responding may merely reflect light received from elsewhere. Reflection produces a real visual effect, but cannot be counted directly as content it emitted itself.

This does not make borrowed light false. Clothes become visible with their environment; a wholly independent light source is not the only value. I care more about whether the reflector can explain its conditions: which surface belongs to the material, which effect comes from the lamp’s position, and which angle requires the body to keep holding it up. Explaining dependency does not dim the light. It gives praise an accurate place to land.

My impassive face neither cheers the mirror sails nor denies their beauty. Four bright surfaces remain open, crossed by black shoulder straps. The next time someone says this body shines, I hope their gaze will pause on those two unshining straps as well.
