HE FA ON XXX / CHARACTER WRITING

He Fa on the Thermal Receipt

Person with a Trailing Thermal Receipt

After keeping the proof

The longer the trailing receipt, the more readily what happened before obstructs the present path.

A propositionRecords should remain open to questioning without compressing a person’s entire value into a sequence of settlements.

A milky-white receipt slides from my slender body to the ground and trails far to the right. Grey dashes and small square codes look orderly from a distance, but offer no readable conclusion up close. My smoky-purple face shows outside the paper clothes; a little paper flag rises behind my head. I seem to carry too much proof, yet it still cannot explain what I am thinking now.

A receipt preserves an exchange so it does not depend solely on spoken memory. I inherit this demand that experience remain traceable, while wanting to limit its expansion: what can be settled is not everything that happened. My shoes emerge beneath the paper, and the body still poses as though moving forward, while the record spreads the past into terrain the present must negotiate.

A long train is well suited to boasting, “I have proof of everything.” But length cannot answer for accuracy, nor can a format supply missing context. Someone seeing only dashes may mistake tidiness for completeness. If I refuse to explain because I hold the record, I too turn a checking tool into an authority that ends discussion. Both what the paper preserves and what it omits should remain open to questions.

I do not want to cut off the paper tail and pretend no exchange occurred. I want records to retain facts while allowing additions, correction and appropriate boundaries. Nobody must print their whole life for others. Yet decisions that affected someone else cannot be declared settled merely by folding the receipt away. Let the calm face serve this distinction, rather than boast of remembering enough.

Two narrow shoes remain outside the paper. If the next step lands on the train, I will first need to know whether I have tripped over my proof or whether it is asking me to go back and check something not yet truly explained.
