How a personal story becomes a shared project
The public call for Becoming Wind, Breaking Waves is co-authored by Lifeng and He Fa. In his introduction, He Fa writes that they met through Romance Theatre and that a later conversation prompted a new proposal. Lifeng would initiate a project from her own story, inviting others to write, direct, rehearse, design, perform and document together. The article includes her personal text Ruma, allowing her own words to form the starting point.
Her account moves between being a “good child”, becoming a “good adult” and wanting to act, as personal experience repeatedly meets external expectations. The call brings these unresolved questions into collective creation. It welcomes people with differing occupations and experience, including those who would prefer to work behind a camera. He Fa proposes following the process with a recording team and releasing intermediate work. This entry preserves the structure and aspirations of the project’s launch.
