From a distance, a landscape. Up close, photographs made at different times and positions.
Selected works2012 / Photography, light box
Dense horizontal bands divide the image into adjoining fragments.

Fragments is a wide horizontal image filled with narrow bands. Grey, blue, green and earth-toned textures lie alongside one another in separate blocks. The breaks between bands are immediately visible; closer inspection finds textures that resemble fragments of natural scenes. Reading the whole and identifying its details call for different kinds of attention.
The portfolio separates the title from the image: name, dimensions and date appear first, followed by the dense field of texture. The work is recorded as a light box measuring 2400 × 1250 mm, dated March 2012. The full horizontal image is retained here so that differences between blocks and the seams joining them remain visible together.
Based on pages 12–13 of the 38-page portfolio 何发-作品小汇. Title, date, dimensions and medium follow the original title page. Images were extracted independently from the PDF and retain their full compositions. The English title is a translation or transliteration for this website, not a verified historical English title.

TAKE A PATH ACROSS

Versions of a work
Fragments spreads image strips across a plane, while Sangou GIF Theatre places small actions in loops. One lets the eye choose where to stay; the other repeatedly returns an action during that stay.
The complete horizontal image consists of dense horizontal strips, with divisions and seams remaining visible.
The 2016 proposal jointly signed by He Fa and Zhang Aoshuang lists Sangou among FakingAosome’s works and describes virtual characters, GIF drawings and a collaged theatre.

Language in transit
Fragments retains breaks between image strips, while Fafalish juxtaposes successive transcriptions. Both make seams readable: one rearranges visual positions, the other changes correspondences between sound and written meaning.
The complete horizontal image consists of dense horizontal strips, with divisions and seams remaining visible.
The CCA exhibition statement supplies six transformations: Chinese poetry, literal English translation, accented reading, pinyin transcription, Chinese rewriting and machine translation into English.
