Shanshui
From a distance, a landscape. Up close, photographs made at different times and positions.
Selected works2009 / Photography, light box
Tables, rooms and snow-covered ground form circular arrangements of distinct everyday scenes.

The four images in Gathering share circular or sphere-like arrangements but contain different scenes. One gathers food, people and a room around a dining table. Another retains the purple light of an interior. The remaining images turn to a snowy courtyard and a room containing a person. Displaced edges, cuts and repetitions remain visible throughout.
No single central object organizes all of these scenes. Tables, walls, floors and people acquire different orientations through the assembled photographs. The images retain recognizable things while rearranging their usual spatial relationships. The portfolio dates the light-box work to September 2009, records dimensions of 512 × 512 mm, and places all four images under the title Gathering.
Based on pages 31–35 of the 38-page portfolio 何发-作品小汇. Title, date, dimensions and medium follow the original title page. Images were extracted independently from the PDF and retain their full compositions. The English title is a translation or transliteration for this website, not a verified historical English title.

TAKE A PATH ACROSS

Working together
Gathering assembles tables, people and rooms into surrounding images; Happiness Kingdom develops character relations from handmade figures. Both organize worlds through concrete things, while montage and shared object-making retain different authors.
In the first image, table, food, people and room fragments form an encircling composition, with directions changed by the collage.
Public materials from April–May 2023 describe collective puppet making, assigned personalities and role recruitment; individual roles and texts retain their own authors.

Spaces transformed
Gathering’s surrounding compositions reorient objects; YourTube joins six seats into a ring with tubing. Adjacency within an image and proximity between bodies do not guarantee that everyone looks toward the same place.
In the first image, table, food, people and room fragments form an encircling composition, with directions changed by the collage.
The saved installation instructions document switching on individual screens, media players and MP4 selection, and preserve the arrangement of screens, tubing and six connected stools.
