From photographs to a projectable image

This 2014 work appears alongside the Wu images in the same portfolio, but its medium is specified as “any material suitable for projection,” with dimensions determined by the exhibition. That specification allows the image to leave a fixed print format and enter another surface and scale.

An even field of attention

Pale grey, orange and cyan particles lie densely together, with diffuse edges and no single centre. Looking can shift from finding an object to sensing density. Compared with the more distinct clusters in Touch touching on the following portfolio page, attention here moves more evenly across the surface. This page presents a portfolio still; the source page specifies neither a separate running time nor a particular installation.

Archive note

Prepared from page 20 of the artist’s retained portfolio, He Fa Portfolio 3. Chinese titles follow the source; English titles are translations for this site unless already given in English. Images retain their full composition. Dimensions refer to the version listed in that portfolio.

Lose losing specifies any projection-suitable material; Fafalish combines paper texts with listening apparatus. Surfaces participate in expression in both, but the former’s still records cannot establish its projection rhythm.

Lose losing’s record leaves dimensions dependent on the exhibition space; the Hangzhou residency retains cancellation and relocation. One preserves formal adaptability, while the other records actual spatial changes affecting shared production.
