From a distance, a landscape. Up close, photographs made at different times and positions.
Selected works2009 / Photography, light box
Two images share a page: sharp repetition beside diffuse superimposition.

Two square images follow the title page for Yigui. On the left, small light and dark units resembling triangles and diamonds repeat in a grid, holding tiny recognizable fragments. On the right, soft grey-brown superimpositions show almost none of the same sharply divided structure. Their edges, tonal contrasts and degrees of legibility differ markedly.
The portfolio provides no separate subtitle for either image and does not describe them as successive stages. Both are therefore retained in their original relationship of adjacency, allowing their visible differences to lead the reading. The source records a light box dated December 2009, measuring 512 × 512 mm. Yigui is a transliteration of the original Chinese title.
Based on pages 16–17 of the 38-page portfolio 何发-作品小汇. Title, date, dimensions and medium follow the original title page. Images were extracted independently from the PDF and retain their full compositions. The English title is a translation or transliteration for this website, not a verified historical English title.

TAKE A PATH ACROSS

Spaces transformed
Yigui juxtaposes distinct divisions with soft overlays; YourTube retains each screen’s border. The former compares organization within images, while the latter places separate displays within a shared viewing space.
Two images sit together: one uses distinct divisions, the other soft superimposition; the portfolio does not state a developmental sequence between them.
The saved installation instructions document switching on individual screens, media players and MP4 selection, and preserve the arrangement of screens, tubing and six connected stools.

Versions of a work
Yigui’s two images are not assigned a sequence by the source; Untitled retains the artist’s account of stopping after repeated rejection. Juxtaposition does not establish development, and a surviving image need not mean its problems were solved.

The portfolio statement directly records prolonged making, repeated rejection and eventual abandonment; stopping does not prove that the problem was resolved.
